  JW`s Claim Their religion is Based Solely on The Bible.

  well here are a few words that the watchtower / jw`s religion frequently use that do not appear in the bible , either , old testament or the new testament.. organization , sovereignty , reinstatement , governing body .. and in the christian greek scriptures ,the kingdom interlinear that the jw`s published themselves , a word for word translation of the greek to english does not contain the name / word jehovah ......nowhere ..

  Religious belief has nothing to do with truth. It is simply a matter of convenience.

  The GB/ FDS knows this and so they make it as inconvenient as possible for anyone to leave the organisation, particularly if your family is entrenched.

  the last person in my family to serve in the armed forces was my uncle jack during the korean war.

  he suffered a skull injury but fully recovered.. .

  this subject has been brought up before.

  the governing body and watchtower have repeatedly encouraged jws to show loyalty to the organization to "keep the congregation clean" by reporting wrongdoing to the elders.. i know directly of two cases.

  two jws working in the records department of our local hospital "outed" 3rd gens 1st husband to the local elders when he and his mistress sought medical treatment together for stds.

  Sensitive information about one of my female relatives was given to her family by a self righteous young witness who worked at the clinic she visited.

  Her family threatened legal action against the clinic worker and the clinic if she persisted and the problem went away.

  It would be interesting to see how far the org would distance itself from a health worker who decided to turn in a fellow believer. I'm pretty sure the org would try to wash its hands of any involvement.

  During the period of slavery, life was tougher and crime and punishment was brutal for everyone.

  Children were still being hung for crimes in England, flogging was a common sentence.

  All of us have ancestors that have suffered atrocities because of ethnic differences or religious differences. It's not fair and it's immoral. I guess the question is, at what point does it become unhealthy and unhelpful to keep rehashing the past?

  Has God broken the Sabbath?

  in the early 80's, i remember a district convention drama that featured the story of the guy that was stoned to death for gathering sticks on the sabbath.

  i thought it was kind of harsh because it wasn't like the guy was doing any real work like building anything, or plowing a field.. if we accept that god is perfect, then surely he would set the example of keeping the sabbath in a perfect way.

  the word sabbath means inactivity as far as i can tell and this leads me to ask a question about things god has done during his rest day that seem like work to me.. .

  Hey TD.

  I personally don't see new language as an act of creation because languages evolve anyway. Although if God caused it to happen directly, as in the case of the tower of Babel, then you are right, it seems like another account of God causing something to occur which would be incompatible with a day of rest.

  What I find frustrating is how rest is interpreted. You mention resting from creating things is a way various groups interpret a Sabbath, yet as Diogenesister pointed out, gathering sticks hardly qualifies as creating anything.

  On the surface it seems that humans are being held to a higher standard than God when it comes to observing a rest day.
